UK Envoy Plants Tree During Lok Virsa Visit
The British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott, visited the Lok Virsa Complex at Shakarparian and planted a tree as part of a tree plantation initiative, underlining a shared concern for cultural sites and the environment.
During the Lok Virsa visit she spoke informally to the media about the institution’s role, saying Lok Virsa is playing an important role in the promotion and development of Pakistani folk heritage and in keeping traditional arts visible for future generations.
On climate change she noted that Pakistan is among the countries most affected by shifting weather patterns and extreme events. The British High Commissioner stressed that the UK stands with the Pakistani government and people amid the current flood situation and is providing all possible assistance to support relief and recovery efforts.
The Parliamentary Secretary for National Heritage and Culture, Farah Naz Akbar, and the Executive Director of Lok Virsa attended the event, which combined cultural diplomacy with environmental action. The Lok Virsa visit reflected both the importance of cultural preservation and the urgency of collaborative responses to climate and disaster challenges.
