Empowering Students on International Identity Day

The Directorate of Student Affairs (Male) at IIUI, in collaboration with the Public Engagement Department of NADRA and the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, held a seminar on International Identity Day at the male campus to brief students on the importance of legal identity. Faculty members, staff and students from FET attended the session designed to raise awareness about citizen registration and available services.

Dr. H. Ghufran, Director Student Affairs (Male), delivered the opening remarks and stressed that legal identity is a fundamental right aligned with the United Nations’ SDG 16.9. He described the seminar as an important opportunity to inform students about the practical steps for registration and why a verified legal identity matters for future prospects.

An official from NADRA’s Public Engagement Department provided a detailed presentation on the Civil Registration Management System and Civil Registration and Vital Statistics, explaining how births, deaths, marriages and divorces are recorded and why these records form the backbone of legal identity nationwide. The presentation linked these systems directly to students’ access to services and protections.

NADRA representatives also introduced the NADRA-PAK mobile application, outlining its features and benefits for quick access to registration services, documentation status checks and outreach support. Officials encouraged students to explore the app as a convenient way to verify and update their records while studying.

The seminar highlighted NADRA’s ongoing outreach through memoranda of understanding with academic institutions under special initiatives that ensure coordinated awareness drives on campuses. NADRA officials praised the Directorate of Student Affairs (Male) and the Faculty of Engineering and Technology for facilitating engagement with IIUI students and supporting the registration drive.

Dr. Muhammad Amir, Dean of FET, underscored the significance of legal registration for every individual, particularly university students, citing protection and future opportunities as key reasons to complete citizen registration. He thanked NADRA officials for their presentation and commended the Directorate of Student Affairs for organizing an informative event that reinforced the value of identity documentation.

The seminar on International Identity Day served as a timely reminder for students to secure their legal identity and make use of NADRA resources and the NADRA-PAK app to manage their records efficiently while pursuing education in Pakistan.
