Russia Launches Diamond Butterfly Film Awards
The inaugural Diamond Butterfly Open Eurasian Film Awards will take place in Moscow this November, organised in partnership with Russia’s Ministry of Culture and the Russian Cultural Foundation. The awards aim to champion high-quality cinema that highlights spiritual and ethical values, reinforces ties between Eurasian and national cultures, and underscores the role of culture in shaping public consciousness.
Diamond Butterfly organisers say the initiative responds to contemporary trends in global cinema by offering a balanced alternative that celebrates art fostering hope and human connection. Elena Golovonina, Director General of the Russian Cultural Foundation, said the awards will support films that strengthen enduring moral values and open opportunities for new artists and creative collaborations.
The Diamond Butterfly trophy is a diamond-studded butterfly designed by noted Russian artist Yuri Kuper. The prize will be awarded across twelve categories, with winners eligible to receive up to one million US dollars in support for their work. The scale of the awards reflects the organisers’ intent to elevate films with meaningful cultural and ethical messages.
The Eurasian Academy of Cinematic Arts, which held its inaugural event in April 2025, drew representatives from more than twenty countries, including Pakistan, India, Iran, China, Kazakhstan, Turkey and several others. Pakistani film representatives were among the participating delegations, highlighting regional interest in deeper Eurasian cultural cooperation.
