Showcasing Pakistani Art in Budapest
The Embassy of Pakistan in Hungary, together with the National Library of Foreign Literature, opened an art exhibition titled “Allure of the East: Interpreting Tradition” on 13 October 2025 in Budapest, presenting a fresh perspective on Pakistani Art.
The exhibition brings together the work of 20 Pakistani visual artists whose pieces engage the dialogue between tradition and modernity. Curator Ms. Sundas Azfer said the selection highlights how tradition shapes national identity and thanked the Hungarian hosts for the opportunity to present Pakistani Art to Budapest audiences.
Ambassador Asif Hussain Memon welcomed guests and expressed gratitude to the National Library of Foreign Literature for hosting the event. He noted the exhibition coincides with the 60th anniversary of formal diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Hungary while observing that cultural links extend well beyond six decades, pointing to Allama Iqbal’s poem on the Hungarian national poet as an example of long-standing connections.
The Director General of the National Library of Foreign Literature described the initiative as a continuation of collaborative spirit and mutual understanding between the two countries and quoted Faiz Ahmed Faiz, saying “The language of beauty is understood by every heart,” underscoring the universal reach of art.
Chief Guest Dr. Sándor Fazekas, Deputy Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly, praised the exhibition and reflected on bilateral cooperation since relations were formally established in 1965. He highlighted cooperation across political, economic, trade, education and cultural sectors and referenced Hungarian energy company MOL’s engagement in Pakistan’s hydrocarbon sector as well as scholarship programs that deepen ties.
The opening drew diplomats, Hungarian officials and art enthusiasts. This is the Embassy’s second exhibition in Budapest following an event in September 2023. The Allure of the East exhibition will remain on view through 22 October 2025, giving local audiences an extended chance to engage with contemporary Pakistani Art and the cultural conversation it invites.
