Driving Energy Innovation at Russian Energy Week

Russian Energy Week 2025 convened in Moscow from October 15 to 17 with more than 7,000 participants from 100 countries, bringing together leaders from major companies, government authorities, international organisations and energy experts under the theme “Creating the Energy of the Future Together”.

The plenary session with the participation of President V.V. Putin underlined the resilience of the sector, noting its ability for technological mobilisation and the emergence of a new investment cycle based on domestic resources and international partnership. In his address the President said, “Russia intends to strengthen its position as a world energy leader, develop partnerships in order to build a fair and sustainable global energy model in the interests of future generations.” The discussions at Russian Energy Week reflected that strategic emphasis.

The forum’s business programme was organised around the recently adopted Energy Strategy of the Russian Federation until 2050 and covered core tracks such as oil, gas and coal, digitalisation, logistics, the climate agenda and scientific and technological development. Dozens of panel discussions and strategy sessions brought together energy company leaders, ministers and experts from countries including China, India, Saudi Arabia and Hungary to debate market transformation and shifting balances of interest.

The opening session “Global Energy Markets: Transforming Relations and Balance of Interests” featured the Russian Minister of Energy Alexander Novak alongside the Secretary General of OPEC Haisam Al Gais, Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud and FSEG General Secretary Mohamed Hamel, among others. During REN2025 a large technology exhibition showcased over 50 leading companies presenting cutting-edge projects and industry innovations, and the forum hosted the presentation of the international “Global Energy” and “Pen Energy” awards.

For Pakistan’s energy and technology sectors, Russian Energy Week highlighted potential avenues for collaboration, from technology partnerships to investment aligned with long-term strategy horizons. The conversations on digitalisation and scientific and technological development are particularly relevant for Pakistani firms seeking partnerships or new market insights as regional energy dynamics evolve.
