Uniting Qawwali and Gospel at Town Hall NYC
New York, 1 November 2025 — A landmark cultural evening at The Town Hall brought Pakistan’s spiritual music to an international audience when Ustad Fareed Ayaz and Abu Muhammad Qawwal Brothers shared the stage with American gospel ensemble Chorale Le Chateau. The concert, titled “For the Love of God!”, marked the first time in The Town Hall’s century-long history that Pakistani artists were presented by the historic venue.
The collaboration highlighted the deep musical and spiritual dialogue between qawwali and gospel traditions. Musicians from both traditions wove devotional themes, call-and-response phrasing, and impassioned vocal delivery into a single program that emphasized shared expressions of faith and transcendence. The focus on Qawwali Gospel connections resonated strongly with an audience that braved severe weather to attend.
The event was produced by Vagabond Media in partnership with The Town Hall NYC and drew roughly a thousand attendees. The scale and enthusiasm for the performance underscored growing interest in cross-cultural programming that foregrounds both artistic excellence and interfaith understanding.
Mr. Aamer Ahmed Atozai, Consul General of Pakistan in New York, attended as chief guest and praised the collaboration. “We are deeply proud to see Pakistan’s celebrated qawwals, Ustad Fareed Ayaz and Abu Muhammad, make history as the first Pakistani artists ever presented by The Town Hall,” he said, noting that their music “embodies Pakistan’s rich spiritual and cultural heritage, inspiring harmony and understanding across borders.”
The Consul General also reaffirmed the Consulate’s support for similar initiatives, committing to back future artistic exchanges that promote peace, coexistence, and intercultural dialogue through the arts. Organizers and diplomats alike described the evening as a model for cultural diplomacy that places shared human values at the center of artistic exchange.
The joint performance at Town Hall offered a memorable demonstration of how Qawwali Gospel collaborations can build bridges between communities, showcasing Pakistan’s living musical traditions on a prominent international stage while inviting new audiences to experience their spiritual depth.
