Driving Regulatory Reform in Pakistans Health Sector
DRAP presented a reform-driven, science-based and technology-enabled vision at the Health Asia International Exhibition & Conference 2025 held at the Karachi Expo Centre, underscoring its commitment to regulatory reform across Pakistan’s healthcare sector.
The authority convened high-impact technical sessions that brought together policymakers, industry leaders and healthcare professionals to accelerate regulatory reform and innovation in therapeutic goods oversight. These sessions emphasized evidence-based decision making and the role of digital tools in improving patient safety.
Delegates engaged on priorities including boosting indigenous manufacturing of medical devices to strengthen local supply chains, advancing bioequivalence studies to ensure therapeutic reliability, and promoting ethical pharmaceutical marketing that prioritizes patient welfare. Discussion also focused on aligning with PIC/S and GMP standards to raise quality benchmarks toward global harmonization.
DRAP highlighted the introduction of 2D barcode track and trace systems as a key step in digital oversight, improving transparency and reducing risks in the distribution of therapeutic products. Stakeholders examined how technology can support compliance and protect patients while enabling industry growth.
The Honourable Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal and Baluchistan Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar attended as chief guests and praised DRAP’s leadership in steering regulatory reform, stressing the importance of localizing production while meeting international quality standards.
A large turnout of healthcare professionals, academicians and industry representatives benefited from interactive sessions that fostered collaboration, transparency and a shared commitment to quality and innovation. DRAP’s participation reaffirmed its role as a reform-oriented, globally aligned and patient-focused regulator driving Pakistan toward greater self-reliance in health products.
