Press Gallery Walkout Prompts Government Assurances

Parliamentary reporters staged a press gallery walkout from the National Assembly after forced removals of media personnel and police action at the National Press Club. The move came as journalists protested the alleged arbitrary dismissals and the raid on the press club, insisting on immediate implementation of the agreed charter of demands.

A government delegation visited the press lounge to address the situation, with Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar joined by Member National Assembly Syed Aminul Haq and PIO Mubashar Hassan. The delegation assured reporters that steps would be taken regarding the forced dismissals and that implementation of the charter of demands would be pursued following the attack on the National Press Club.

President of the Parliamentary Reporters Association M.B. Somroo and Secretary Naveed Akbar provided a detailed briefing to the government team, outlining the sequence of events and the association’s expectations for remedial action. The matter was raised in the house and officials pledged follow-up measures to address the concerns shared by reporters.

Reporters maintained that the press gallery walkout was a measured response to protect media rights and to press for accountability. The press community said it will monitor the government’s commitments closely and seeks prompt, transparent action on both the forced removals and the National Press Club incident.
