Skardu Evacuation Drill Delivers Fast Response
A fire emergency evacuation exercise was conducted today at Skardu International Airport to evaluate response procedures and passenger safety. The mandatory drill, held twice a year, was designed to ensure operational readiness and strengthen cooperation among airport stakeholders during a simulated crisis.
During the scenario the fire alarm was activated and Airport Fire Services responded immediately. Firefighters controlled the simulated incident and evacuated 34 of the 35 people who were inside the terminal within two minutes, demonstrating rapid on-site coordination and adherence to emergency protocols.
Following the initial evacuation, a secondary search located one injured individual who was shifted to Benazir Hospital for medical attention. The prompt transfer underlined the importance of clear handover procedures between airport teams and local medical providers during a Skardu evacuation.
The COO and Airport Manager expressed appreciation for the coordinated efforts of Airport Fire Services, ground staff and partner agencies, noting that regular drills are essential to maintain high standards of safety, preparedness and stakeholder cooperation at Skardu International Airport.
