Strengthening Action Against Sindh Child Labour
Pirbhu Lal Satyani, Member for Sindh and Minorities at the National Commission for Human Rights (NCRC), participated in a stakeholder consultation in Karachi on the Sindh Strategic Action Plan for Child Labour Eradication, organised by the Labour & Human Resource Department, Government of Sindh, in collaboration with UNICEF.
Mr Satyani emphasised the need to strengthen multi-stakeholder coordination to provide livelihood opportunities for families, ensure implementation of the minimum wage and promote education for out-of-school and working children. The consultation advanced practical steps within the Sindh child labour framework to address economic drivers that force children into work and to expand pathways back into formal education.
He highlighted improving implementation mechanisms through capacity building for labour inspectors, provision of field vehicles to support inspections and the effective functioning of District Vigilance Committees. Mr Satyani conveyed that the NCRC would extend technical support where required, calling for sustained collaboration between provincial departments, the Ministry of Human Rights and UNICEF to translate the Sindh child labour plan into measurable outcomes for children across the province.
