A delegation from the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) has conducted an on-site assessment of areas and markets in Rawalpindi recently affected by heavy rains and urban flooding. The team, led by RCCI President Usman Shaukat, visited several low-lying neighborhoods and key commercial centers to evaluate the extent of damage and engage with local stakeholders on recovery efforts.
The RCCI delegation included Senior Vice President Khalid Farooq Qazi, Executive Member Naveed Kanwal, former Vice President Faisal Shahzad, and representatives from various market associations. During their visit, the team inspected severely impacted commercial zones such as Gawalmandi, Raja Bazaar, Moti Bazaar, Bohar Bazaar, Mochi Bazaar, and Kalan Bazaar, where they received briefings from local market leaders about the losses sustained by traders and shopkeepers due to the recent downpours.
In response to the concerns raised by market representatives, President Usman Shaukat emphasized the importance of regular monitoring and cleaning of city water drains throughout the monsoon season. He issued directives to relevant authorities to take proactive measures aimed at minimizing the risk of further flooding and property damage in vulnerable areas.
President Shaukat also appealed to both traders and the general public to observe necessary precautions during the monsoon period to protect lives and assets. He reiterated the chamber’s commitment to supporting the affected business community and collaborating with government agencies to improve urban flood resilience.
