Strengthening Pakistan US Ties Through Parliament
Acting Chairman of the Senate Syedaal Khan Nasar met a three-member delegation from the United States Embassy, led by Political Counselor Ms. Shelley A. W. Saxen, at Parliament House in Islamabad to discuss bilateral cooperation and shared priorities.
Both sides exchanged detailed views on matters of mutual interest, underlining the importance of parliamentary engagement in deepening Pakistan US ties. The Acting Chairman said the incumbent government’s diplomatic strategy has helped strengthen relations and stressed that the partnership rests on mutual respect, trust and common objectives.
Syedaal Khan Nasar highlighted Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, noting thousands of lives lost and economic damages running into billions. He pointed to ongoing counterterrorism efforts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan and called on the international community to recognise Pakistan’s role and provide further cooperation to address the social and economic impacts of terrorism.
The Acting Chairman also welcomed expanded economic cooperation, urging American companies to explore Pakistan’s investment opportunities across sectors. He emphasized that increased US investment would bolster bilateral economic and commercial ties while parliamentary exchanges would build greater trust between legislatures.
Referring to high-level meetings between US President Donald Trump, Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces General Syed Asim Munir, the Acting Chairman paid tribute to the US President’s role in defusing Pakistan–India tensions and said those efforts helped avert escalation and save lives.
Syedaal Khan Nasar invited the US delegation to visit Balochistan, assuring them of the province’s hospitality and full security arrangements by the provincial government. The US delegation reiterated Washington’s commitment to strong ties with Pakistan, acknowledged Pakistan’s counterterrorism sacrifices and said it would work to inform American companies about investment prospects and enhance parliamentary cooperation. They also conveyed condolences on the passing of the Acting Chairman’s sister-in-law.
The meeting concluded with a mutual pledge to maintain and expand cooperation, reinforcing Pakistan US ties through ongoing dialogue, parliamentary exchange and deeper economic engagement.
