Ramp Up Ramadan Supply Plans for Price Stability
Federal Minister Professor Ahsan Iqbal instructed relevant departments during a review meeting of the National Price Monitoring Committee (NPMC) to develop advance Ramadan supply plans to ensure timely delivery of essential goods and maintain price stability. The minister emphasized that proactive Ramadan supply planning is critical to prevent shortages and protect consumers.
Officials were reminded that inflation has eased, falling from 7.2 percent in October 2024 to 6.2 percent in October 2025, and that sustaining this trend requires coordinated action across ministries and administrations. Departments were told to present a detailed supply plan for essential items at the next NPMC meeting so authorities can coordinate distribution ahead of the holy month.
A key directive called for the establishment of cold chain systems for agricultural produce to preserve quality and smooth the flow of goods between surplus and deficit areas. Strengthening cold chain infrastructure is expected to reduce post-harvest losses and help balance supply and demand during Ramadan.
The federal minister asked ministries and agencies to produce database-driven analytical reports to support decision making, urging the use of data to identify pressure points in supply chains, forecast demand, and shape targeted interventions. Evidence-based analysis will be central to the proposed Ramadan supply measures.
Provincial and district administrations were instructed to intensify market monitoring to curb unwarranted price spikes and ensure that relief measures reach intended beneficiaries. As the minister said, “An integrated strategy will ensure price stability.” Continuous monitoring and enforcement were underscored as vital steps.
Improving market transparency and readiness before Ramadan is expected to deliver tangible relief to households by keeping essential items accessible and prices steady across Pakistan, with coordinated plans, upgraded cold chains, and strengthened market oversight forming the backbone of the effort.
