Turning Landmarks Blue for World Childrens Day

Islamabad, 20 November 2025. On World Childrens Day Pakistan lit up 18 prominent buildings as part of a nationwide Go Blue campaign led by the Ministry of Human Rights in collaboration with UNICEF to draw attention to children’s rights and wellbeing.

Children across the country took part in symbolic events inside provincial assemblies, stepping into representative roles to speak about their lives, hopes and rights and to call for policies that reflect their priorities. The campaign emphasised youth participation and the importance of listening to young voices in decisions that shape their future.

Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, Federal Minister for Human Rights, said the country celebrates its children, their hopes and limitless potential and reiterated that every child deserves to grow up in a safe, nurturing and empowering environment. He said the Go Blue initiative serves as a powerful reminder of Pakistan’s shared responsibility to uphold child rights and wellbeing.

Taqwa Ahmed, a UNICEF Youth Advocate, said, “Every single day, children’s lives are shaped, often limited by the choices adults make. On World Childrens Day, we raise our voices as young people determined to shape our own future. We imagine a Pakistan where every child is safe, included, learning, and heard. Real, lasting change begins when leaders choose to listen, and when children are empowered to lead.”

Pernille Ironside, UNICEF Representative in Pakistan, highlighted the scale of the challenge and the need for urgent action, noting that children under 18 make up 47 percent of the population and represent the country’s human capital. She described the nationwide lighting as a unifying moment to remind everyone that children deserve opportunity, safety, dignity and the space to be heard, and urged concerted attention from authorities and households alike.

The Go Blue campaign and the events in provincial assemblies were intended as both a celebration and a call to action on World Childrens Day, underlining the need to invest in children across Pakistan so they can thrive and contribute to a better future.
