Prioritize Gas Safety This Winter
Rescue 1122 Rawalpindi has issued a strong advisory as cold weather increases the use of gas heaters and stoves across the district, warning that even small lapses can trigger dangerous gas leak incidents. Citizens are urged to practise gas safety at all times, especially before going to bed.
Engineer Zabghatullah, District Emergency Officer Rawalpindi, said most incidents stem from negligence and minor mistakes that can quickly escalate into destructive explosions. He appealed to residents to ensure all gas appliances are turned off at night and to adopt simple gas safety habits that can prevent tragic outcomes.
Official figures show that last winter 14 gas leakage incidents resulted in 24 people sustaining serious injuries. So far this season, six gas leakage incidents have been reported in Rawalpindi, leaving eight people injured. Rescue teams provided timely first aid and transported the affected to nearby hospitals.
Authorities stressed practical steps for immediate action if gas is detected: do not press electric switches, do not strike a match or create any spark, open all doors and windows to ventilate the space, and move family members outdoors. These basic gas safety measures reduce the risk of explosion and give emergency teams the best chance to respond safely.
Media Coordinator Muhammad Usman Gujar appealed to residents to avoid complacency and to report any emergency without delay by calling Rescue 1122. He noted that prompt alerts enable faster response and better protection of lives and property. Rescue 1122 Rawalpindi has also released an awareness video offering clear guidance on safe gas use in winter.
Local households are reminded that vigilant gas safety practices, timely reporting to 1122 and following the advice of emergency responders are the most effective ways to prevent further injuries this winter.
