Deepening COMSTECH Malaysia Partnership
In Islamabad on 30 November 2025, H.E. Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General of OIC-COMSTECH, met with YAB Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah Haji Yusof, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, to advance scientific and technological collaboration under the COMSTECH Malaysia partnership. The leaders described the discussions as warm and forward-looking and agreed to accelerate joint programmes that address priority development needs across OIC Member States.
A major focus of the talks was expanding Halal research and training. Both delegations committed to deepen cooperation on global halal standards, streamlined certification processes and technology-driven solutions to support growth in the halal industry, an area where Malaysia’s expertise can bolster regional markets and trade.
Participants also outlined broad-based capacity building in the healthcare sector, emphasising advanced training, technology transfer and strengthened institutional linkages. The meeting recognised Malaysia’s established medical and biotechnology infrastructure as a strategic asset for regional skill development and for scaling healthcare innovations among OIC countries.
Climate resilience and sustainability emerged as another pillar of cooperation, with both sides agreeing on the need for collective scientific action to address environmental challenges facing many OIC nations. Plans discussed included collaborative research agendas and programme exchanges to enhance preparedness and sustainable management of shared resources.
The Deputy Prime Minister praised COMSTECH’s role in fostering scientific collaboration across the Muslim world and affirmed Malaysia’s readiness to deepen strategic engagement. Dr. Choudhary highlighted Malaysia’s leadership in innovation and the shared objective of empowering OIC Member States through science and technology.
Both parties concluded the meeting with a clear commitment to expedite joint initiatives and to explore new areas of partnership that advance sustainable development and shared prosperity across the region.
