Russian Delegation Visit Boosts Emergency Cooperation
During the 10th meeting of the Russia-Pakistan Intergovernmental Commission the Russian delegation visit brought a high-level team to the National Disaster Management Authority Pakistan where Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev met with NDMA Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik.
The delegation included representatives from the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations who were directly involved in the rescue operation after the April 8, 2005 earthquake, and their presence underscored a shared history of humanitarian cooperation between the two countries. Eyewitnesses of the 2005 response were invited to the meeting and were able to express their gratitude in person to the rescuers who assisted them.
Sergei Tsivilev emphasised Russia’s readiness to share expertise in emergency response and disaster management, noting that a commitment to the value of human life unites nations in practical cooperation. The Russian delegation visit also included a symbolic gesture when several trees were planted on NDMA grounds as a sign of friendship and long-term partnership.
The meeting highlighted practical avenues for knowledge exchange in disaster relief and recovery, reinforcing how closer ties and shared emergency response experience can benefit Pakistan’s preparedness and resilience.
