NSU Sustainability Surge After Global Ranking
The National Skills University Islamabad has climbed the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2025, securing the second position in Islamabad and placing 12th nationally, a milestone that underlines NSU sustainability as a core institutional priority.
The university’s main campus in Sector H-8 has rapidly evolved into a visible example of green infrastructure despite the institution being only six years old. Observers note that the campus design and campus operations reflect a deliberate push toward environmentally responsible practices, reinforcing NSU sustainability across teaching, facilities and campus life.
International recognition has followed the campus improvements and skills-centred approach. The European Training Foundation has named NSU a Center of Excellence in Professional Skills, while UNESCO-UNEVOC has identified the university as a hub for advanced skills development and innovation. NSU also won two awards under the UNESCO-UNEVOC Co-Action Programme this year, adding to its growing global profile and validating its sustainability-driven strategy.
Education experts attribute this rapid rise to the leadership of founding Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar and his team, who have embedded sustainability, green infrastructure and skills-based education into the university’s culture. Their efforts have translated into measurable recognition on the international stage and growing confidence among local and global stakeholders.
In a competitive ranking that evaluated 1,745 universities from 105 countries, NSU’s performance demonstrates the potential for a skills-driven, eco-friendly university model to influence Pakistan’s higher education landscape. Continued focus on NSU sustainability and innovation could encourage further investment in green campus initiatives and practical skills training across the country.
