Students Urged to Explore Pharmacy on World Pharmacists Day

The Department of Pharmacy at Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad marked World Pharmacists Day on September 25, 2025, with a programme that brought together academic leaders and regulatory experts to engage with students on the evolving role of pharmacists in Pakistan.

Dr. Obaidullah, Chief Executive Officer of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP), attended as the chief guest and delivered the keynote address, encouraging students to broaden their professional horizons across the many facets of pharmaceutical science. Prof. Dr. Tofeeq ur Rehman, Chairman of the Department, and several faculty members were present to support the initiative and interact with attendees.

In his address Dr. Obaidullah highlighted the central role pharmacists play from frontline community healthcare to specialised areas such as nanomedicine, urging future professionals to consider diverse career paths. He emphasised that the pharmacy profession must adapt to scientific advances and the changing needs of patients while maintaining a strong commitment to medicine safety.

The keynote also underscored the value of sustained collaboration between academia and DRAP, noting that partnerships are essential to strengthen public health systems and ensure the safety and efficacy of medicines in Pakistan. Students were encouraged to pursue multidisciplinary training and research to meet national healthcare challenges and to help advance standards across the pharmaceutical sector on World Pharmacists Day and beyond.
