Driving Punjab Reform with Badal Do Nizam

At a Badal Do Nizam workers convention in Lala Musa, Jamaat-e-Islami Deputy Ameer Liaquat Baloch said Punjab remains central to Pakistan’s politics but has been denied its rightful share by a handful of elite families, landlords and vested interests backed by the establishment. He warned that nearly 120 million people of Punjab have been sidelined by successive incompetent rulers, and called for a broad movement for Punjab reform to restore power to ordinary citizens.

Liaquat Baloch said Jamaat-e-Islami will position itself as the true voice of the province and lead efforts to make Punjab a unifying force for national development, mutual respect and provincial harmony. He announced that the next phase of Badal Do Nizam will include a comprehensive plan focused on abolishing what he described as the ‘black law’ governing local bodies in Punjab, building a genuinely empowered local government system and transferring real authority to people at the grassroots.

Targeting major parties, he criticised Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Pakistan Peoples Party and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf for failing to enact meaningful devolution despite holding power at federal and provincial levels. He argued that while these parties preach governance, they resist measures that would devolve power to the grassroots, and urged them to respect the constitution, rule of law and an independent judiciary at home as they demand abroad.

Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Punjab Dr Tariq Saleem said the movement gained fresh momentum after the massive public turnout at the Lahore Minar-e-Pakistan gathering, and that activists should now carry the Badal Do Nizam message into neighbourhoods across Punjab. He described Jamaat-e-Islami as an ideological movement committed to a just and moral system and called on workers to expose the ruling class that, he said, imposes itself through bureaucracy and exploits the populace.

Speakers including Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami District Gujrat Rana Umar Siddique and Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Lala Musa Dr Syed Haider Ali also addressed the convention, urging mobilisation around Punjab reform and the empowerment of local government. Organisers expressed confidence that growing public support for the Badal Do Nizam campaign will help stabilise the province and contribute to national recovery from recurring crises.
