Empowering Sudanese Engineers with CNC Training

The Certificate Distribution Ceremony for a specialised technical training programme for Sudanese engineers was held at the National University of Technology in Islamabad, where around 20 participants received certificates after completing the CAD/CAM/CNC Operations & Machine Building Course. H.E. Salih Mohamed Ahmed Mohamed Siddig, Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan to Pakistan, attended as the chief guest, while Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General OIC-COMSTECH, participated as guest of honour. Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Moazzam Ejaz, HI(M), Rector NUTECH, senior officials, academicians and representatives of partner institutions were also present.

The training was sponsored and coordinated by COMSTECH in partnership with NUTECH as part of efforts to strengthen technical capacity and deepen South-South cooperation among OIC member states. Ambassador Aftab Ahmad Khokher, Assistant Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation for Science and Technology, also acknowledged the value of such collaborative programmes in enhancing scientific cooperation and skill development across member countries.

Participants received intensive, hands-on CNC training and practical exposure to modern manufacturing technologies including computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing. The course emphasised CNC machine operations and machine building techniques, preparing engineers with industry-relevant skills for contemporary industrial settings. Under the supervision of NUTECH faculty and technical experts, trainees gained practical experience on advanced equipment such as CNC wood routers, drilling and tapping machines, welding units, aluminium cutting machines, tool grinders and shaper machines.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary underlined COMSTECH’s commitment to human resource development, applied research and technology transfer across OIC countries, noting that targeted training initiatives like this CNC training programme create pathways for long-term academic and technical collaboration. Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Moazzam Ejaz reaffirmed NUTECH’s focus on practice-oriented education aligned with industrial needs and expressed confidence that the newly trained engineers will contribute effectively to Sudan’s industrial development.

Beyond classroom and workshop activity, the Prime Institute of Health Sciences facilitated the stay and welfare arrangements for the Sudanese delegation in Islamabad. The successful completion of the course and distribution of certificates underscore ongoing efforts to promote international technical collaboration and to strengthen academic, technical and diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Sudan.
