Lacrosse Clinic and Training Camp Held in Islamabad

A lacrosse clinic and training camp was recently organized in Islamabad by the Islamabad Lacrosse Association, attracting over forty participants. The initiative aims to promote the fast-growing sport among youth in the federal capital, offering both basic and advanced training to newcomers and enthusiasts.

The event was attended by several notable figures from the sports community. Arif Mahmood, Secretary General of the Rawalpindi Islamabad Sports Journalists Association, served as the special guest, distributing prizes, shields, and certificates to the players. He commended the participants for their dedication and the efforts of the organizers in bringing this dynamic sport to a wider audience.

Technical briefings on essential lacrosse skills, including passing, catching, cradling, shooting, defensive tactics, and game rules, were provided by Sarmad Shabab, Director Technical, and Taifur Zarin, Secretary of the Pakistan Lacrosse Federation. The organization of the clinic benefited greatly from Miss Chaman Mushtaq, Coordinator of the Islamabad Lacrosse Association, and Shafqat Niazi from the Punjab Sports Department.

The event also saw support from international cricketer Arshad Bhatti, who highlighted the importance of promoting diverse sporting opportunities in Pakistan. In his remarks, Arif Mahmood emphasized the significance of introducing lacrosse to young athletes and encouraged the continuation of grassroots programs to sustain interest and development in the sport.

The training camp, held at Nawaz Sharif Park, is set to continue for a month, offering participants regular practice sessions, skill development workshops, and match play opportunities. Organizers hope these sustained efforts will lay the foundation for the growth and popularity of lacrosse in Islamabad and beyond.
