Demand Justice for Medical Negligence in Rawalpindi

At the National Press Club Islamabad, Advocate Arooj Fatima of the High Court spoke on behalf of the bereaved family, saying that six-year-old Zunayshia Ameer lost her life due to apparent medical negligence at a private hospital located in a prominent Rawalpindi housing society.

Zunayshia had been taken to the hospital for a minor throat operation and arrived in good spirits, but did not return alive from the operation theatre. Her mother, Anam Ameer, accompanied by family members, described the shock and grief of losing a child brought in for a routine procedure.

Advocate Arooj Fatima said the family had been assured that qualified anaesthetists would be present, but they later discovered the responsible doctor was not a qualified anaesthetist. She attributed the child’s death to the negligence and carelessness of the doctors and hospital staff and called the incident a grave failure of duty of care.

The family has urged the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister of Punjab to intervene and ensure a thorough investigation, demanding strict action against those responsible so that no other family has to face a similar tragedy. They emphasized that accountability is essential to deter future incidents of medical negligence.

During the press conference, the relatives pressed for transparent legal and regulatory measures against the hospital and the personnel involved, seeking full justice and compensation for the loss of their child. The case has raised fresh concerns about staffing, credential verification, and patient safety standards in private healthcare facilities in the region.

Advocate Arooj Fatima reiterated the family’s demand for immediate and robust action, stressing that effective enforcement and oversight are needed to prevent avoidable deaths and uphold public trust in healthcare providers.
