Boosting Shooting Sports in Pakistan

Mohsin Nawaz has dedicated his Tamgha-e-Imtiaz to Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Patron-in-Chief of the Pakistan Long Range Rifle Association, crediting institutional backing for recent gains in shooting sports. Nawaz said the award represents more than personal recognition; it symbolises the collective effort of state institutions that have helped create structured pathways for athletes.

Nawaz highlighted the role of the Cabinet Division, the Pakistan Sports Board and government recognition in bringing shooting sports into the mainstream sporting framework. He said official recognition has given Pakistani shooters an internationally accepted structure that allows them to compete under the national flag and access global events.

The establishment of the Pakistan Long Range Rifle Association and its affiliation with the International Confederation of Fullbore Rifle Associations marks a turning point for long-range rifle shooting in Pakistan. Nawaz described this affiliation as a vital milestone that opens clear pathways for talented shooters who previously lacked formal national representation.

Drawing on more than two decades of competition and 10 individual international medals, Nawaz pointed to real progress while underscoring how demanding the sport is. Having trained under the 2023 World Champion, he emphasised that success in long-range precision shooting requires mental resilience, concentration and countless hours of practice.

Nawaz called for sustained institutional investment and long-term planning to grow shooting sports into a professional discipline in Pakistan. He also underlined the value of collaboration with the Pakistan Army, noting how its culture of discipline and precision can help develop elite international shooters.

Beyond his own ambitions, Nawaz is committed to mentoring the next generation. He expressed a strong desire to share his experience with young shooters across the country and to help build a national pathway that supports emerging talent through coaching, guidance and organised competition.

Describing the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz as a responsibility to give back, Nawaz urged continued support from government bodies, sports institutions and stakeholders. With strategic planning, sustained investment and collective effort, he believes Pakistan can rise as a competitive force in international shooting sports in the years ahead.
