Advancing Pakistan Water Resources Partnership
On January 16, 2026, a delegation from the Global Business Division of the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology (KICT), including researchers in water resources and river engineering, visited the KOICA Pakistan Office to explore cooperation in Pakistan’s water sector.
The meeting brought together representatives to explain the roles and current status of Pakistan’s water-related institutions and to hold detailed discussions on technical approaches for improved water observation, monitoring and management. Emphasis was placed on practical methods to strengthen hydrological monitoring systems and data-driven river management tailored to Pakistan’s needs.
Participants also highlighted the critical role of human capacity development, agreeing that sustainable progress in water resources requires long-term investment in research and education linkages. Both sides expressed strong interest in capacity-building programs that combine technical training with collaborative research and knowledge exchange.
KICT, a government-funded research institute with deep expertise in water resources and environmental engineering, underscored its commitment to international cooperation and talent development. The visit provided a timely opportunity to identify areas where Korean research capabilities can support Pakistan’s efforts to modernize water management practices.
The KOICA Pakistan Office reaffirmed its intent to coordinate with Korean specialized research institutions and local partners to support sustainable water resource management capacity in Pakistan, advancing projects that improve monitoring, management and workforce skills for long-term resilience.
