Improving Higher Education Quality in Pakistan Through Strong School Foundations

Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan, Chairman of the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC), met with prominent educationist Ali Raza, Chairman of the Pakistan Chamber of Education and Member of the National Curriculum Council, to discuss strategies aimed at enhancing higher education in Punjab by strengthening the quality and foundation of school-level education.
During this productive meeting, both leaders emphasized that meaningful reforms in higher education depend significantly upon improvements at the primary and secondary education levels. They agreed that a robust school education system provides students with essential skills, knowledge, and attitudes, thereby establishing a firm baseline for advanced education and research excellence.
Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan highlighted PHEC’s continuing commitment to elevating educational standards in Punjab, stressing the need for collaborative efforts among educational bodies to achieve tangible progress in academia. He further affirmed that joint initiatives between higher educational policy-makers and primary and secondary institutions would ensure more effective transitions for students progressing to higher education institutions.
Ali Raza underscored the significance of a well-developed school education framework and curriculum reforms, noting that enhancing early educational practices directly contributes to overall academic performance and critical-thinking skills among students. He reiterated the Pakistan Chamber of Education’s readiness to facilitate cooperation between education stakeholders at all levels and support the PHEC in spearheading meaningful educational advancements across Punjab.
Both parties concluded the discussion by committing to closer coordination and regular interactions in future, agreeing to create comprehensive strategies for improving educational quality from early schooling through to higher education.
