Federal Urdu University Awards Degrees to Graduates
A dignified convocation at the Islamabad campus of the Federal Urdu University brought together graduates, faculty and national leaders for a formal degree ceremony under the slogan “The secret of national progress is education in the national language.” The ceremony recognised graduating students and honoured high achievers with medals for academic excellence.
Wajih Qamar, Minister of State for Education, presided over the event and personally conferred degrees on the graduating class. In his address he praised the role of the Federal Urdu University in strengthening higher education and acknowledged the efforts of the vice chancellor and faculty in advancing teaching and research. He also pledged government support to address and resolve the university’s financial difficulties.
Dr. Zabta Khan Shnawari, the university’s vice chancellor and chief scholar, congratulated the graduates and highlighted the institution’s contribution to producing leading intellectuals. Dr. Shnawari noted with pride that the university has entered global rankings, a development he described as a positive milestone for Urdu-medium higher education.
Dr. Saba Bashir, in charge of the Islamabad campus, said the convocation had injected fresh enthusiasm among faculty and students and underscored the presence of capable academic staff across departments. The procession that welcomed guests was organised by senior faculty members and administrative officers, including additional in-charge Alim Raza and additional registrar Alim Raza, while the ceremony management involved the dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Dr. Rahat, and other senior faculty.
Members of the National Assembly Anjum Aqeel, Jamal Raisani and Fathullah attended as honorary guests and joined in celebrating the achievements of the graduates. Medals were presented to students who achieved distinction, emphasising merit and academic dedication.
The convocation concluded with an announcement that the Islamabad campus will host its next convocation next year. The ceremony reflected renewed momentum for the Federal Urdu University as it seeks to expand its academic profile while preserving the mission of promoting education in the national language.
