Tuberculosis Epidemiological Review Strengthens Response in Punjab

Experts from the World Health Organization (WHO) and Pakistan’s Ministry of Health have conducted a joint mission in Punjab as part of a comprehensive tuberculosis (TB) epidemiological review. The collaborative effort aimed to assess the current TB situation in the region and to identify strategies to enhance the country’s response in the fight to eliminate the disease.
During the visit, representatives from both organizations worked closely to evaluate existing TB control measures, review case detection and management protocols, and identify gaps within the provincial healthcare system. Their joint activities included field visits, meetings with healthcare professionals, and discussions with local authorities responsible for TB surveillance and treatment.
This partnership underscores Pakistan’s commitment to combating tuberculosis, a persistent public health challenge. Insights and recommendations from the review are expected to shape future interventions, improve detection rates, and ensure greater access to effective treatment for TB patients across Punjab and the country.
The initiative reflects ongoing efforts by both national and international bodies to strengthen Pakistan’s healthcare capabilities and move closer to the goal of ending tuberculosis nationwide.
