Senator Zehri and Australian Envoy Discuss Peace and Development in Balochistan

Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri has met with the Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan to discuss the pursuit of peace, interfaith harmony, and development initiatives in Balochistan. Both leaders expressed their commitment to addressing longstanding challenges in the province through a holistic approach that blends improved security, socio-economic empowerment, and stronger human rights protections.

The meeting opened with expressions of condolence following a recent terrorist attack that has caused deep sorrow for both the province and the country. Senator Zehri and the High Commissioner stressed the importance of combining security efforts with meaningful dialogue, political engagement, and community development. They identified social cohesion and interfaith harmony as vital to establishing long-term stability in the region.

Senator Zehri outlined Balochistan’s key issues, emphasizing the lack of adequate communication infrastructure, limited job opportunities, and the need to enhance governance to decrease public frustration. She called for increased investment in essential sectors such as education, health, women’s empowerment, and initiatives to foster mutual respect among different religious communities.

The Australian High Commissioner shared reflections from recent visits to Balochistan, highlighting young people’s enthusiasm, especially among female students.
