Pakistan Reaffirms Humanitarian Law Commitment in Islamabad

Pakistan used a global humanitarian law conference in Islamabad to reaffirm its commitment to international law and call for stronger legal frameworks to address conflicts and human rights abuses. Advisor to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister on Information Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif spoke at the Two-Day Policy Dialogue on the Global International Humanitarian Law Initiative, organised by the International Committee of the Red Cross in collaboration with the International Parliamentarians Congress. The meeting drew participation from senior politicians, parliamentarians and provincial representatives.
Speaking to delegates, Barrister Saif emphasized Pakistan’s adherence to humanitarian principles and international law while outlining major challenges confronting the country and the wider region. He identified terrorism, internal conflicts and reported human rights violations in Gaza, Syria and Indian-occupied Kashmir as issues that require urgent attention.
Barrister Saif urged policymakers to strengthen existing legal frameworks to better prevent and respond to these problems. He called on political leaders to resolve disputes through legal and judicial means rather than by resorting to violence, framing the rule of law as the most effective route to lasting solutions.
The conference was attended by Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed along with members of Pakistan’s National and Provincial Assemblies, reflecting broad political engagement with the initiative and support for advancing international humanitarian law in the country.
