Islamabad Moves to Establish Special Technology Zone
A meeting at the Capital Development Authority headquarters, chaired by Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa, reviewed plans to establish a Special Technology Zone in the Federal Capital. The session included Member Planning and Design Dr. Khalid Hafiz, Executive Director Aamir Saleemi from the Special Technology Zones Authority and senior CDA officers, who discussed steps to move the project forward.
Officials were informed that 28 Special Technology Zones have been notified nationwide and that 141 acres have been allocated for the proposed zone in Islamabad. The allocation positions the city to attract both national and international technology companies and entrepreneurs seeking office and high-tech production space.
The master plan for the site envisions a dedicated technology zone alongside a high-tech production area, with integrated commercial and residential components to support a functioning tech ecosystem. Planners highlighted that the Special Technology Zone will offer purpose-built infrastructure to meet industry needs.
To encourage investment, participants noted that targeted concessions in taxes and duties, together with a range of facilitation measures, will be made available to qualifying high-tech firms. It was agreed to form a joint working group between CDA and STZA to address regulatory, planning and infrastructure matters and to make the Special Technology Zone operational at the earliest possible date.
Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa directed preparation of a feasible and sustainable model with a detailed review of financial aspects, stressing that a clear economic framework is essential for long-term success. He said the Special Technology Zone will play a central role in promoting technology adoption and establishing Islamabad as a technology hub.
Officials also highlighted the employment potential the project offers for Islamabad residents across technology and supporting services. The meeting concluded with a reaffirmed commitment to leverage STZA technical expertise and CDA resources to expedite implementation and ensure the project delivers tangible benefits to the Federal Capital.
