EPA PMD Join Forces for Smog Season Preparedness
Director General Environmental Protection Agency Mr. Imran Hamid Sheikh, accompanied by Additional Secretary (Technical) EP&CCD Mr. Tayyab Zia, visited the Pakistan Meteorological Department Lahore to formalise closer collaboration on air quality and smog response.
In talks with Mr. Abdul Aziz, Director Regional Meteorological Centre Lahore, the two sides agreed to establish an EPA desk inside PMD Lahore that will enable EPA PMD real-time access to meteorological data and improve day-to-day coordination on pollution events.
Officials discussed measures to strengthen AQI forecasting and analysis ahead of the smog season 2025-26, with PMD assuring technical support and timely sharing of weather and dispersion data to refine predictions and public alerts.
The EPA PMD agreement also sets the stage for sustained coordination between EPA Punjab and PMD Lahore to enhance operational readiness, ensure faster information exchange and support more effective smog management for urban and vulnerable communities.
