Accelerating Wi-Fi 7 Rollout in Pakistan

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has approved the use of Wi-Fi 7 within the 6 GHz band for operation across 5925–6425 MHz, adopting the technical parameters earlier set for Wi‑Fi 6E. Announced in Islamabad on 26 September 2025, the decision enables device makers and network operators to prepare for commercial deployments of next-generation local wireless services.

Wi‑Fi 7 promises ultra-high data rates, reduced latency and improved reliability, unlocking applications such as 8K streaming, augmented and virtual reality, and industrial automation. By opening the 6 GHz band, the move will help relieve congestion on legacy Wi‑Fi channels and can contribute to lower broadband delivery costs for providers and end users.

Deployment of Wi‑Fi 7 in Pakistan is expected to strengthen connectivity for households, small and medium enterprises, university campuses, healthcare facilities and smart city projects. Expanding available spectrum will support higher-capacity local networks and more resilient wireless links that many digital services now rely upon.

Positioning Pakistan among the earlier adopters in the Asia-Pacific region, the PTA framed the approval as a step to accelerate innovation and broaden access to advanced connectivity. The regulator said the measure supports efforts to bridge the digital divide, enhance network resilience and drive an inclusive digital economy.

With regulatory parameters in place for the 5925–6425 MHz range, manufacturers and service providers can move forward on rollouts and consumers and institutions can expect to see the benefits of Wi‑Fi 7 in the months ahead.
