Celebrating European Languages in Lahore
The European Day of Languages came alive in Lahore as communities gathered in the gardens of Alliance Française and Annemarie-Schimmel-Haus for two days of music, learning and cultural exchange. The programme put European languages at the centre, offering a lively mix of performances and interactive activities that highlighted cultural diversity.
Friday’s concert brought vibrant multilingual performances and musical showcases that celebrated Europe’s linguistic richness, while Saturday focused on family-friendly experiences where children and adults explored new words, songs and storytelling in different European languages.
Alliance Française de Lahore, Annemarie-Schimmel-Haus and cultural partners worked with support from the EU Delegation, the German Embassy in Islamabad and the French Embassy in Pakistan to deliver a programme that combined education and entertainment. The collaboration emphasised Lahore’s growing role as a meeting point for cultural dialogue and language learning in Pakistan.
Attendees enjoyed informal language workshops, live music and opportunities to meet native speakers, creating moments of connection across generations. Local families and cultural groups joined organisers to turn the event into a warm community celebration where curiosity about European languages was encouraged and nurtured.
Organisers thanked everyone who attended in the gardens of Alliance Française/Annemarie-Schimmel-Haus for making the European Day of Languages a memorable two-day event in Lahore, and expressed the hope that such initiatives will continue to strengthen cultural ties and language learning opportunities in the city.
