Strengthening Community Policing in Balochistan

The UNODC-led training held in Quetta from 6 to 8 October 2025 brought together police officers and community perspectives to strengthen trust across Balochistan. Conducted under the EU-funded Deliver Justice Project, the three-day programme focused on practical steps to bridge the gap between law enforcement and citizens and to promote collaborative problem solving at the district level.

A total of 25 police officers, including 10 women, took part in sessions designed to reframe policing as partnership work rather than unilateral enforcement. Participants engaged with the core principles of Community Policing, conflict resolution techniques, and approaches that prioritise local problem solving while upholding human rights.

Through interactive exercises and dialogue, officers explored how active listening and sustained engagement can reduce tensions and improve public safety. Trainers emphasised the role of consultation, transparency, and cooperation in building durable confidence between communities and the police in Quetta and surrounding districts.

Participants left the training committed to applying people-centred methods in their daily work, seeking to embed Community Policing practices that strengthen peace, trust, and access to justice across Balochistan. The programme is being seen locally as a concrete step toward more responsive, rights-respecting policing that works in partnership with citizens.
