Transforming Classrooms with AI Training at IIUI

The Faculty of Education at the International Islamic University Islamabad launched a three-day workshop titled “Transforming Higher Education with Prompting and AI Tools,” running through October 17, 2025, to give faculty and postgraduate students hands-on AI Training for classroom and research use. The programme, organised in partnership with the Pakistan U.S. Alumni Network and supported by the U.S. Mission to Pakistan, prioritises practical application of AI tools alongside discussions of ethics and academic integrity.

The opening session in the Seminar Room at the Faisal Mosque Campus brought together faculty members and postgraduate students for a detailed outline of the workshop schedule and learning approach. Dr. Fouzia Ajmal, the workshop focal person, described sessions designed to move beyond theory so participants can practice prompt engineering, AI-enabled content creation and assessment design during the three-day programme.

Dr. Muhammad Riaz, Project Lead Pakistan–U.S. Alumni / USAID Program, presented the workshop design and expected outcomes, emphasising responsible use of technology. He said the AI Training aims to build educators’ technical competency while protecting academic standards, helping them adopt AI-driven methods that enhance inclusivity and engagement in Pakistani higher education.

Dr. Azhar Mahmood, Incharge Programs at the Faculty of Education, highlighted the strategic role of digital skills in modern curricula and research. He underlined the Faculty’s commitment to integrating educational technology and AI into teaching practice, noting that the workshop agenda includes interactive demonstrations, collaborative problem solving and reflective sessions to translate new skills into classroom practice.

Participants will work through practical modules on prompt engineering and personalised learning tools, experimenting with AI-enabled lesson design and assessment strategies under facilitator guidance. The hands-on format encourages peer feedback and iteration, and by the workshop’s end attendees are expected to draft actionable plans to pilot AI-informed teaching strategies in their own courses.

The initiative underlines IIUI’s effort to prepare educators for a rapidly evolving digital landscape and reflects growing collaboration between Pakistani universities and international partners to strengthen capacity in educational technology. With this AI Training, faculty and postgraduates are positioned to bring more innovative, ethically informed practices into Pakistan’s higher education classrooms.
