Driving Change with Constitutional Amendments

Atif Ikram Sheikh, President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, said the business community and local chambers are central to economic revival and voiced strong support for constitutional amendments to bring stability and predictable policy making. He delivered his remarks while addressing a ceremony in Hafizabad that celebrated the newly elected leadership of the Hafizabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The event drew senior business figures including UBG Patron-in-Chief S.M. Tanveer, President Zubair Tufail, Secretary General Zafar Bakhtawari, and senior leader Riazuddin Sheikh, along with Federation Vice President Tariq Jadoon and Chairman Capital Office Karim Aziz Malik. Mr. Sheikh congratulated the new chamber team and assured full cooperation to address the specific challenges faced by local traders and industrialists.

Mr. Sheikh highlighted the need to empower chambers for local economic revival, increase exports and create opportunities for youth. He emphasised that constitutional amendments will help create a stable environment for businesses, enabling long-term planning and consistent policy decisions that support trade and industry.

The FPCCI president also recalled the Federation’s work over the past two years to protect traders’ interests, including vocal opposition to IPP capacity charges, high interest rates and rising production costs. He noted that the Federation’s advocacy contributed to a government industrial package and productive outcomes against controversial clauses in the Finance Bill and in the Sales Tax Ordinance.

Patron-in-Chief S.M. Tanveer described the Hafizabad leadership as dynamic and reiterated collective priorities: agricultural development, tackling unemployment, boosting exports and strengthening local economies. He said chambers and platforms like FPCCI and UBG are focused on practical steps to stabilise Pakistan’s economy.

Newly elected Hafizabad Chamber President Malik Suhail said he will work tirelessly for the local business community and aims to develop the Chamber into one of Punjab’s leading chambers. He welcomed the backing of the Federation and UBG leadership and pledged to leverage that support to advance trade, employment and local enterprise in the Hafizabad region.
