Shaping Post Truth Dialogue at Moscow Forum

Dr. Furqan Rao, Executive Director of the Center for Democracy and Climate Studies, delivered observations at the Forum in Moscow, Russia, during the event titled Dialogue About Fakes 3.0. Speaking in the roundtable session The Age of Post-Truth: What Language Do We Need for Dialogue, he examined how language and framing shape public response to misinformation and the need for clearer tools to support informed conversation.

The roundtable gathered experts and thought leaders from France, Slovenia, Mexico and several other countries to explore practical approaches for fostering meaningful exchange. Participants assessed how communities can build resilience in the face of coordinated falsehoods and discussed the role of civic institutions, media and education in sustaining a healthy post-truth dialogue.

Rao linked these global insights to challenges that Pakistan faces, noting that strengthening media literacy and promoting respectful public discourse are central to national resilience. The discussion highlighted how international perspectives can inform local strategies, helping civil society and policymakers adopt communication practices that reduce polarization and improve trust.

Participants left the session with a shared sense of urgency about developing language and processes that encourage constructive conversations across divides. The emphasis on a sustained, inclusive post-truth dialogue underscores the Center for Democracy and Climate Studies’ commitment to translating international lessons into practical measures for communities in Pakistan and beyond.
