Strengthening IPC Training in Lahore Hospitals
A collaborative initiative between the Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Department, Punjab, and the National Institute of Health in Islamabad is advancing infection prevention and control across major tertiary hospitals in Lahore through focused IPC training.
Five-day IPC cascade trainings were successfully completed at Lahore General Hospital, the Punjab Institute of Mental Health in Lahore, and Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. These courses were designed to transfer practical knowledge and reinforce consistent clinical routines at facility level as part of broader efforts to strengthen Punjab’s hospital IPC systems.
Led by experienced provincial IPC master trainers, the sessions enabled multidisciplinary healthcare teams to review and improve clinical practices, renew emphasis on standard precautions, and adopt measures that enhance patient safety. The IPC training placed particular emphasis on practical application within each hospital environment to ensure sustainable improvements.
Sincere appreciation is extended to the Provincial IPC Focal Person for leadership and to the Provincial IPC Coordinator for ongoing coordination. Thanks are also due to the Medical Superintendents, Medical Directors, Principals and hospital administrations for their strong support, and to the master trainers and participants for their commitment to elevating IPC practice across Lahore.
By building local capacity through repeated IPC training and mentorship, the programme aims to embed routine infection prevention measures within everyday clinical care and support consistent patient safety outcomes across Punjab’s tertiary hospitals.
