Advancing Domestic Violence Act Monitoring in KP

On 24 November 2025 a one-day provincial consultation was held at Serena Hotel Peshawar to develop the first draft of the Monitoring Mechanism Framework under the Domestic Violence Act (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa). The session was organised by Strengthening Participatory Organization (SPO) with technical support from UNFPA Pakistan, in collaboration with the Social Welfare, Special Education & Women Empowerment Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and supported by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office under the Aawaz-II programme.

The event was honoured by the presence of Ms. Rozina Rehman, District & Session Judge Peshawar, who attended as chief guest. Mehwish Muhib Kaka Khel, Advocate and Legal Consultant at SPO, and Ms. Mahjabeen Qazi, Provincial Programme Coordinator KP for UNFPA, also shared remarks and technical perspectives during the consultations.

Participants focused on practical steps to make the Domestic Violence Act operational across the province, discussing measures to strengthen protection mechanisms, improve reporting and referral pathways, and ensure coordinated implementation by relevant departments. The consultation emphasised a victim-centred approach and the need for clear monitoring indicators to track progress and gaps in service delivery across districts.

Outputs from the day will feed into a consolidated draft Monitoring Mechanism Framework that will undergo further review and validation with provincial stakeholders. Organisers said the process aims to accelerate implementation of the Domestic Violence Act and to advance safer communities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
