Dr Shahzad Ali Khan Wins Oversight Committee Chair
Elections held today selected Dr Shahzad Ali Khan, Vice Chancellor of the Health Services Academy, as Chair of the Oversight Committee that monitors Global Fund grants in Pakistan.
Dr Shahzad Ali Khan secured the position with a huge majority and will serve as Chair for the next two years, taking on leadership of the panel responsible for independent review and guidance on Global Fund-supported programs.
The Oversight Committee plays a critical role in ensuring that Global Fund grants are implemented effectively and transparently, with the explicit aim of reducing the burden of HIV, TB and malaria across the country. The committee’s work focuses on continuous monitoring of program performance, financial management, procurement and identified risk areas to prevent inefficiency or misuse.
In practice the committee identifies bottlenecks and compliance issues and recommends timely corrective actions so that allocated funds result in real health impact rather than slipping into delays or waste. By independently reviewing data, engaging with implementers and tracking follow-up actions, the Oversight Committee strengthens accountability and supports national health systems.
For Pakistan, strong oversight of Global Fund investments is essential to translate funding into measurable health outcomes. Under Dr Shahzad Ali Khan’s two-year chairmanship, stakeholders will look to the committee to sustain rigorous monitoring and to drive corrective measures where needed so that grants achieve their intended results.
