Advancing Human Rights Reform in Pakistan

The Ministry of Human Rights, together with the EU Delegation to Pakistan, co-chaired the second meeting of the Project Steering Committee for the EU Huqooq-e-Pakistan Phase II project to push forward tangible human rights outcomes across the country. The session brought together Provincial Human Rights Departments, National Human Rights Institutions, UNDP Pakistan and representatives from the Economic Affairs and Inter-Provincial Coordination Divisions to assess implementation and agree priorities for the coming year.

Participants reviewed progress across the project’s four pillars and placed a premium on evidence-based policy interventions to strengthen accountability at both provincial and federal levels. Emphasis was placed on coordinated measures to counter gender-based violence and child abuse, drawing on provincial inputs to shape scalable responses that reflect local realities.

Delegates also discussed advancing business and human rights as an essential strand of the programme, exploring ways to integrate corporate responsibility into national frameworks and to promote remedies for affected communities. UNDP Pakistan and other partners underlined the need for data-driven policy and stronger institutional linkages to sustain reform.

Annual workplans were presented and endorsed, reaffirming a collective commitment to reinforce human rights mechanisms across Pakistan and to deliver on the objectives of Huqooq-e-Pakistan Phase II through targeted actions and inter-agency collaboration.
