Cyclists Rally for Green Mobility in Islamabad
The Capital Development Authority and the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad partnered with Allied Bank to stage a Cycling Championship at D-Chowk and along Jinnah Avenue, drawing roughly 300 cyclists and local residents in a show of support for green mobility.
Events were held across multiple categories including Open Men, Open Women, Senior Men, Senior Women, Under 16 and Under 9, with participation governed by a Standard Operating Procedure to ensure safety and inclusive competition for all age groups and genders.
Member Finance CDA Tahir Naeem, the District Magistrate Islamabad, the Director Sports, the DSP Traffic Police and the President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce attended as special guests. Members of the national women’s cricket team and other senior officials also joined the activity and rode alongside participants, underscoring cross-sector support for cycling and green mobility.
Participants and citizens praised the initiative and urged that such events be held regularly to promote a healthier, more active community. Organizers said the visible turnout reflects growing public interest in environmentally friendly recreation and transport options.
CO MCI Dr. Anam Fatima said the championship highlights the CDA and MCI commitment to raising awareness about green mobility and fostering a culture of active living in the federal capital. She emphasized that providing safe, healthy recreational opportunities for Islamabad residents remains a top priority and that similar activities will continue to be organized.
