Advancing OBE CAMP at Aga Khan University
The Aga Khan University’s Network of Quality Teaching and Learning (QTL_net) has launched its flagship workshop, Outcome-Based Education Curriculum Alignment and Mapping (OBE CAMP), to strengthen outcome based education across the Pakistan campus. Held from 20–22 April 2026, the inaugural capacity-building event brought together members of the Curriculum Advisory Committee and programme representatives to re-examine programme and course learning outcomes through an outcome-based lens.
Under the leadership of Vice Provost Jane Rarieya, the workshop was led by Dr. Khairulnissa Ajani, Director Teaching and Learning (QTL), with facilitation support from Dr. Mohamed Shahid Shamim, Associate Dean, Graduate Programme, Medical College, and the QTL team. Participants engaged in sustained reflection on how learning design can deliver real-world impact for students and communities served by AKU.
Practical, peer-led activities formed the core of OBE CAMP, with faculty aligning and mapping Programme Learning Outcomes (PLOs) and Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) to assessments and instructional strategies. The process emphasised coherence between what students should learn, how learning is assessed, and the teaching approaches used to achieve demonstrable outcomes.
A notable element of the workshop was the presentation of curriculum maps to a multidisciplinary audience, where presenters received immediate feedback from peers and programme leaders. This collaborative and iterative approach helped teams refine alignment and fostered a shared commitment to measurable student learning improvements across programmes on the Pakistan campus.
With the inaugural cohort complete, OBE CAMP will be rolled out more widely across AKU, offering faculty further opportunities to adopt outcome based education practices with ongoing support from QTL_net. The workshop marks an important step in equipping educators to design, assess and document learning that meets local and global expectations.
