WHO Team Mobilizes for Mpox Response in Sindh

A team of international and national experts from the World Health Organization is on the ground in Sindh to support Pakistan’s Ministry of Health and Sindh Health Department in investigating ongoing Mpox and HIV cases, working alongside five partner organisations to coordinate efforts.

The mission aims to bring the best available science and evidence to the Mpox response, helping to refine surveillance, testing and clinical guidance while supporting risk communication to affected communities. WHO specialists will collaborate with provincial and federal teams to ensure investigations are timely and guided by data.

Strengthening the Mpox response in Sindh is intended to protect vulnerable populations and reduce transmission risk through targeted public health interventions and clear messaging. Technical support will focus on bolstering laboratory capacity, case investigation and linkages to care for those affected by HIV and Mpox.

Federal and provincial health authorities, supported by WHO and partner organisations, are coordinating to deliver a unified, evidence-based response to safeguard lives and maintain public confidence as investigations proceed.
