Advancing Pakistan Azerbaijan Ties Through Climate Action
In Islamabad today the Ambassador of Azerbaijan, His Excellency Mr. Khazar Farhadov, met Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr. Musadik Malik to discuss strengthening Pakistan Azerbaijan ties across climate, environmental coordination, tourism and connectivity.
Dr. Musadik Malik described Azerbaijan as one of Pakistan’s most strategic partners, noting the relationship is rooted in mutual trust, shared values and strengthened by regional connectivity that supports cooperation on climate and development challenges.
Ambassador Farhadov briefed the minister on preparations for the upcoming World Urban Forum and explored arrangements for meetings between Dr. Musadik Malik and Azerbaijan’s Ministers of Energy and Ecology during an anticipated visit to Baku, highlighting opportunities for joint projects and knowledge exchange.
Both sides underlined growing progress in cooperation among Pakistan, Türkiye and Central Asian countries, saying stronger alliances and joint ventures could drive regional economic growth and shared prosperity while supporting climate-resilient infrastructure and energy collaboration.
Discussion also focused on people-to-people links and transport connectivity, with officials noting that approximately 120,000 Pakistani citizens received e-visas and ASAN visas for Azerbaijan last year and around 90,000 visited; they explored ways to enhance flight connectivity to meet rising travel demand and boost bilateral exchanges.
Expanding tourism cooperation was highlighted as a priority, with Ambassador Farhadov praising Pakistan’s diverse landscapes and Dr. Musadik Malik noting that Azerbaijan’s experience in tourism development could offer useful lessons; both agreed that promoting tourism and related industries could generate significant employment opportunities for Pakistani youth and deepen Pakistan Azerbaijan ties.
Follow-up steps discussed include planning joint ventures, coordinating on climate and urban issues at the World Urban Forum and arranging ministerial-level meetings in Baku to translate discussions into concrete initiatives across energy, ecology, tourism and connectivity.
