Saud Shakeel Falls to Rare Timed-Out Dismissal in President’s Trophy Final

Saud Shakeel became the seventh player in first-class cricket history to be dismissed via a timed-out decision during the President’s Trophy final.

Representing State Bank of Pakistan, he was unable to take his position at the crease within the required three-minute limit after two quick wickets fell. PTV captain Amad Butt appealed, and the umpires upheld the decision.

Reports indicate that Shakeel was caught off guard by the sudden dismissals and could not prepare in time. Despite making his way to the middle, he was ruled out under cricket’s rarely enforced timed-out regulation.

The last notable occurrence of this dismissal happened at the 2023 World Cup when Sri Lanka’s Angelo Mathews was given out against Bangladesh following an appeal by Shakib Al Hasan.

Shakeel’s dismissal intensified an already eventful passage of play. Muhammad Shahzad had earlier removed Umar Amin and Fawad Alam in successive deliveries.

Following Shakeel’s exit, Irfan Khan was bowled on his first ball, completing Shahzad’s hat-trick and triggering a dramatic collapse as State Bank crumbled from 128 for 1 to 128 for 5.

The final, played under floodlights due to Ramadan, ended with PTV dismissing State Bank for 205, with Imran Butt contributing 89 runs.
