England Women have clinched the three-match ODI series against West Indies with a dominant 143-run victory in the second ODI, powered by yet another record-breaking double-century opening stand from Amy Jones and Tammy Beaumont. The explosive duo replicated their first ODI heroics to guide England to an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.
Playing at home, Jones and Beaumont once again dismantled the West Indies bowling lineup, stitching together a 202-run opening partnership — their second consecutive double-century stand after putting up 222 runs in Derby earlier in the week. Their performances have drawn comparisons with Australia’s legendary pair, Meg Lanning and Ellyse Perry, as the only other duo in women’s cricket history to achieve back-to-back 200+ opening stands.
Wicketkeeper-batter Amy Jones continued her red-hot form at the top of the order, smashing 129 off 98 balls with 20 boundaries, following her maiden ODI century of 122 in the first match. Tammy Beaumont, already an icon in England’s batting ranks, brought up her 12th ODI century — a record for England Women — finishing her innings with a stylish six.
England’s middle and lower-order batters further compounded the visitors’ misery, with Emma Lamb scoring a brisk 55 and Sophia Dunkley blasting 31 off just 19 balls. England posted a formidable total of 366/6 in their 50 overs.
West Indies, already hampered by the absence of key players Hayley Matthews and Qiana Joseph, faltered under the pressure of the huge chase. The side was bowled out for 223, with debutant opener Realeanna Grimmond offering some resistance through a composed 53. Jannillea Glasgow added flair to the innings with a rapid 44 off 24 balls, but the team lacked the depth to mount a serious challenge.
For England, Alice Capsey led the bowling attack with 3/42, while Lauren Filer and Linsey Smith claimed two wickets each. Kate Cross, Freya Bell, and Alice Davidson-Richards chipped in with one wicket apiece to wrap up the innings.
Jones was named Player of the Match for her match-winning century, as England continued their dominance over the West Indies, having already secured the preceding T20I series 3-0.
The third and final ODI is set for Saturday, June 7, in Taunton, where England will look to complete a series sweep.
