Japan Launches SSW Nursing and Agriculture Exams in Pakistan

Japan Announces Skill Tests for Nursing and Agriculture Sectors in Pakistan, Enhancing Employment Prospects

In a significant step aimed at expanding employment opportunities for Pakistani workers, Japan will conduct Specialized Skilled Worker (SSW) tests in Pakistan for the nursing and agriculture sectors beginning August and September 2025, respectively. This decision, announced by the Embassy of Pakistan in Tokyo, underscores ongoing efforts to streamline Pakistani workers’ access to the Japanese job market by facilitating critical examinations in their home country.

This latest initiative builds upon previously announced measures, such as the testing for automobile transportation professionals—including truck, bus, and taxi drivers—scheduled to commence from March 2025. These cumulative efforts reflect the proactive collaboration between the Embassy of Pakistan and Japanese authorities to remove barriers and simplify recruitment procedures.

Japan’s Specified Skilled Worker program aligns with the country’s broader strategic goal of addressing severe labor shortages across key sectors. Recognizing the growing need for skilled manpower, Japan aims to recruit approximately 135,000 workers in nursing care, 78,000 in agriculture, and 24,500 in the automobile transportation sector by the year 2029. These ambitious targets highlight Japan’s increasing dependency on foreign skilled labor to sustain economic productivity and growth.

According to the Embassy, the opportunity to take these essential skill examinations within Pakistan will significantly reduce logistical and financial obstacles previously faced by Pakistani applicants. This move holds considerable potential to boost employment among Pakistan’s younger demographic and increase remittance inflows—an essential component strongly supporting Pakistan’s economy.

The success of this initiative ultimately depends on having a robust pool of skilled candidates who have not only technical competencies but also sufficient proficiency in the Japanese language. Consequently, the Embassy has called upon educational institutions and vocational training providers across Pakistan’s public and private sectors to proactively prepare candidates, emphasizing focused language instruction and targeted skill development aligned with Japan’s labor market requirements.

Prospective candidates seeking further details on examination schedules, application procedures, and access to preparatory study materials are advised to reach out directly to the Community Welfare Wing of the Embassy or visit the official website of the Embassy of Pakistan in Tokyo.
