**Punjab Livestock Department Holds Key Meeting to Promote and Protect Indigenous Horse Breeds**

The Punjab Livestock Department convened a significant meeting aimed at safeguarding and promoting indigenous horse breeds in the province. The discussion focused on strategies for identifying local breeds, documenting their distinctive characteristics, and enhancing their presence on the international stage.

The meeting was chaired by Provincial Minister for Livestock, Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani, and attended by leading horse breeders from across Punjab, representatives from Brooke Pakistan, veterinary experts from the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, and senior officials of the Livestock Department.

Participants deliberated various proposals to ensure the preservation of purebred local horses, promote quality breeding practices, and secure international recognition for these valuable breeds. Experts underscored the importance of compiling comprehensive data records on indigenous horse breeds to prevent the loss of rare genetic lines.

Speaking at the event, Secretary Livestock Ahmed Aziz Tarrar emphasized the department’s commitment to conserving local breeds. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to protect horses from diseases and enhance diagnostic facilities for equine health across the province.

Dr. Sajjad Hussain, Director General Research, informed attendees that advanced diagnostic services for detecting parasites and other equine diseases are available in all district laboratories throughout Punjab, ensuring timely intervention and health management.

The meeting concluded with consensus among all participants on the necessity of coordinated efforts and collaborative actions to preserve and promote Pakistan’s valuable genetic heritage. There was unanimous agreement on striving for global recognition of the country’s indigenous horse breeds through joint initiatives and sustained efforts.
